Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016: Santa Monica #BeachTrash Report

The Beach Rules... No Littering!  Obviously not enforced...

Bay St. at Lifeguard Tower #20
Dateline:  Saturday mid morning, December 31, 2016. Today's #BeachTrash Report begins at Bay St. and concludes beside the Santa Monica Pier and includes photos and a video.  It remains obvious that the City of Santa Monica continues to not care about the #beachtrash along the water's edge because we observed a great deal of said #beachtrash that was right out in the open and if the City had even one employee walk the water's edge and hand pick up the #beachtrash it would have been an easy and effective resolution so that the beach patrons who paid for parking would have a clean beach to enjoy... but that is apparently asking to much of the City of Santa Monica.....

Notice how clean the sand is at the back of the beach and on the soft dry sand.... where very few people either sit or spend time.....

Once you get out to where the majority of people are, e.g., by the water's edge, you encounter an abundance of #beachtrash as the following photos illustrate.....

Below, this round black plastic object has been here on the beach for at least 3 days now and remains uncollected by the City of Santa Monica.  Why?!....  Because the City does not hand pick the #beachtrash along the water's edge.  Why?!... Because the City does not care and its sanitation dept. lacks the commitment to do so.

Below, notice the wildlife (birds) along the water's edge that I observed picking their way through the debris and #beachtrash and pecking at it..... this is no doubt how wildlife end up digesting styrofoam, plastic and paper products that accumulate as #beachtrash and which the City of Santa Monica continues to ignore...

More birds below that I observed walking through the debris and #beachtrash along the water's edge and that walked toward the water as I approached them.....

IF the City had even ONE PERSON to walk the water's edge and hand pick up #beachtrash they would certainly see this discarded plastic bottle below and could pick it up and dispose of it.  Instead, it is left there for birds to pick at and beach patrons to encounter as visual blight that it represents.

Below, this piece of wood was observed yesterday as well... further illustrating the fact that the City has not bothered to clean up the #beachtrash along the water's edge.

If I were a guest at the luxury hotel, CASA DEL MAR or SHUTTERS (as shown in this photo in the background), I would expect the beach to be presentable and clean given the exorbitant hotel room rates and the generous hotel taxes charged.....  Not part of the bargain, however, in the City of Santa Monica.

Additional #beachtrash along the water's edge right out in front of CASA DEL MAR.

Below, the same discarded red plastic beach toy was observed here yesterday as well.....

Also, the very same broken/discarded black plastic dinner plate below was observed yesterday proving that the City of Santa Monica continues to serve up #beachtrash along its shores with no intention to clean it up.....

Debris and #beachtrash at the outlet of the Pico-Kenter Storm Drain right in front of luxury hotels, SHUTTERS and CASA DEL MAR, including a discarded empty glass bottle of BLUE MOON beer... which coincidentally is about as often as you might happen to see even one City sanitation employee outside of a truck or tractor on the sand near the water's edge.....

Now here (below) is an absolutely atrocious photo of the horrendous amount of #beachtrash right out in front of luxury hotels, SHUTTERS and CASA DEL MAR.  Who thinks this shot will show up on these hotels' website or social media. How about the Twitter page of the City of Santa Monica.  Not likely!...

Will any of this #beachtrash EVER be cleaned up by the City of Santa Monica?!....  Probably not based on our many months of #beachtrash audits.

Another shot below unlikely to show up in the social media of the City of Santa Monica or SHUTTERS or CASA DEL MAR.   This is what the beach truly looks like at the water's edge in Santa Monica, Folks!  It's disgusting and it is inexplicable that the City of Santa Monica continues to not dispose of it.  The failure to do so is continuing act of neglect that continues to threaten the public health, safety and welfare.

I observed these discarded or washed up paper products yesterday as well below.....

New Years Eve #BeachTrash: The Video

     https://youtu.be/F02VUEitxQw

This #beachtrash above and below is RIGHT OUT IN THE OPEN near the water's edge and would NOT be difficult to pick up IF the City assigned even ONE EMPLOYEE to do so!  This is apparently to much to ask of the City of Santa Monica, however.

It's the end of the year and there continues to be a great deal of #beachtrash that does not get collected and/or disposed of by the City of Santa Monica and unfortunately there is NO END IN SIGHT!... That's the truth of it, in any case, with respect to the #beachtrash along the water's edge in the City of Santa Monica.

Respectfully submitted,
