Heal The Bay Cleans Up Beach Trash On California #CoastalCleanUp Day, Sept. 16, 2017

#CoastalCleanUpDay

Dateline: Saturday morning, September 16, 2017 along Santa Monica State Beach at Ocean Park, the following photos represent a sampling of the efforts undertaken by volunteers with HEAL THE BAY to hand pick and dispose of #beachtrash during the annual #CoastalCleanUpDay.  Spectacular effort with a very clean beach as the result of said efforts.

#CoastalCleanUp Day 2017 was a success, that's for sure!  Unfortunately, in the coming days and weeks inconsiderate beach patrons will litter and leave behind their consumable goods, e.g., glass, plastic, paper, etc. and the City of Santa Monica will continue to avoid its obligation to hand pick it up and dispose of it, especially near the water's edge.  Just look at our thousands of photos on this blog over the past year and before at just how much #beachtrash accumulates on a daily basis near the water's edge that the City of Santa Monica does not hand pick or dispose of on a daily basis.

While I very much admire all the efforts of today's volunteers and organizations like HEAL THE BAY, Surfrider Foundation, and others, the fact of the matter is that the governmental custodians of this State Beach in Santa Monica lack the integrity and resolve to daily hand pick and dispose of #beachtrash near the water's edge.  These governmental custodians are the City of Santa Monica and the State of California (California State Parks) and they are both complicit in the continuing failure to daily address and remove #beachtrash near the water's edge at Santa Monica State Beach.

Just Another Day of #BeachTrash + a Dead Bird in #SantaMonica: Friday, Sept. 15, 2017

Dead Bird near the water's edge just south of the World Famous Santa Monica Pier
Dateline: Friday morning, September 15, 2017, along the shoreline between the Santa Monica Pier and Ocean Park and back to the Pier... Here are the photos showing a sampling of the #beachtrash plus a dead bird left uncollected and NOT otherwise hand picked and removed from the beach by the City of Santa Monica which continues to NOT daily remove #beachtrash near the water's edge.

Above and below, a group of VOLUNTEERS hand picking up #beachtrash!  This is certainly welcome news. On the other hand, you will NEVER see a group like this employed by the City of Santa Monica hand picking up #beachtrash!...

Below, the line in the sand where the City tractors stop and do not go closer to the water's edge. It is this area closest to the water's edge that the City continues to ignore AND not DAILY hand pick and remove of #beachtrash...

LAPD Helicopter overhead...

Santa Monica Police / Harbor Patrol patrolling the beach...

I continue to find this beverage pouch product, CAPRI SUN, which is a kid's favorite.  What happens is that a parent will give this to their child and then the child will drink it and then throw it on the sand and forget about it and so will the parent...  #ParentingFail

This is an opportunity for this brand owner to educate its customers to NOT litter.

Empty and discarded glass beer bottles near the water's edge at Bay St. IGNORED by the City of Santa Monica because it lacks the integrity to have even ONE person to walk the shoreline to see if there is dangerous #beachtrash that should be collected and removed.  The City of Santa Monica's continued negligence represents a public health and safety issue.

When is the State of California going to step in and require that the City of Santa Monica DAILY remove #beachtrash near the water's edge that represents a public health and safety hazard?!...

Below, an empty and discarded glass bottle of MODELO® beer, the No. 1 most likely beer brand to be left as #beachtrash in Santa Monica...

Below is #beachtrash near the water's edge that I found this morning right out in the open near the water's edge that the City of Santa Monica SHOULD HAVE picked up and removed but did not do so because the City is lazy and does not care.

Right near the water's edge and RIGHT OUT FRONT of luxury hotel, CASA DEL MAR...

I returned to Bay St. about an hour later and no surprise the bottles and other #beachtrash were still there...

Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017: Santa Monica Beach Trash Report

Dateline: Tuesday morning, Sept. 12, 2017 along Santa Monica State Beach between the Santa Monica Pier and Ocean Park and back along the water's edge.  Below is just a sampling of the #beachtrash that I observed between the high tide line and the water's edge that was not collected or otherwise hand picked and disposed of by the City of Santa Monica today.

Above and below, two images showing the beach below the high tide and nearest the water's edge that continues to NOT be daily hand picked of #beachtrash by the City of Santa Monica...

Above and below, an empty discarded glass bottle of Corona Extra beer remains below the high tide line and uncollected and/or otherwise disposed of by the City of Santa Monica due to the fact that the City does not assign ANYONE to walk the beach near the water's edge on a daily basis to pick up #beachtrash...

Above and below, you can clearly see the line in the sand left by the City of Santa Monica's tractor and rake.  Note that the beach closest the to the water's edge (50 -  60 yards) continues to NOT get hand picked or otherwise cleaned of #beachtrash on a daily basis by the City of Santa Monica...

The City of Santa Monica continues to ignore the daily accumulation of #beachtrash near the water's edge  The City continues to rely almost entirely on its tractors and rakes to groom the beach above the high tide line, leaving the beach frequented most by beach patrons ignored and unswept of #beachtrash on a daily basis.
