Nothing has changed...

What a lovely picture, eh?!...

Dateline: Monday morning, January 9, 2017...

Nothing has changed..... it's business, er, #beachtrash as usual in #santamonica along the shoreline where the City of Santa Monica continues to ignore the primary area where #beachtrash accumulates, e.g., along the water's edge.   See for yourself in the photos that follow...

Below, notice how nice the soft dry sand looks after it has been groomed and raked by the City of Santa Monica tractors!...  Unfortunately, this custom is principally #cosmetic and does NOT help AT ALL in the collection and/or disposal of the extensive #beachtrash along the water's edge as the following photos illustrate...

Great illustration below of where the City tractors stop and do not go any further toward the water's edge and, thus, leave uncollected ALL OF THE #beachtrash where people walk.....

Below, half buried and uncollected EVEN by the City tractor and rake are two discarded beverage containers...

Just beyond the edge of where the City of Santa Monica uses its tractors and rakes is a discarded empty can of Budweiser beer.  It does not get picked up and disposed of, however, because the City apparently does not have even one (1) employee who can walk the water's edge and hand pick up the #beachtrash...

Below, #beachtrash right ON THE EDGE of where the tractor  pulling the rake sweeps the sand
and no one to pick up the #beachtrash along the water's edge.  x-ref: #pathetic dysfunctional beach cleaning by the City of Santa Monica.

Right on the edge of the tractor and rake and no one to pick it up and dispose of it... x-ref: #pathetic

A discarded FOREVER 21 garment bag right out in front of luxury hotel, CASA DEL MAR and SHUTTERS.  I guess the exorbitant hotel taxes that they collect do not include the collection and/or disposal of blatantly visible #beachtrash...

Gee... I sure hope that's not what it looks like in that discarded plastic bottle below..... right out in front of CASA DEL MAR!.....

Unfortunately, not even this discarded sponge below can soak up all the #beachtrash along the shoreline in Santa Monica.....

Disturbing isn't it?!...  The City of Santa Monica devotes its resources to raking the soft dry sand with a fossil fuel driven tractor so that the beach has the appearance of being clean and it sure does look nice freshly groomed... The sad truth, however, is that the vast majority of the #beachtrash is along the water's edge and this is what the City continues to ignore.

The fact of the matter is that the beach cleaning by the City of Santa Monica is both #dysfunctional and #irresponsible.  Day after day beach patrons must navigate the water's edge that is replete with #beachtrash that continues to represent an ongoing public health and safety risk.   There is no excuse for not having a sanitation dept. employee walk along the water's edge and hand pick up the #beachtrash that is not picked up by the tractors and rakes.   Why can't this be done in tandem with the use of the tractors.  All an employee has to do is follow behind the tractor at a safe distance.  Apparently this is too much to ask of the City, however....  Finally, this failure by the City remains a continuing liability risk to the City and its taxpayers, in my opinion.

Respectfully submitted,

William Maguire,

Santa Monica business owner
