Dateline: Saturday morning, September 16, 2017 along Santa Monica State Beach at Ocean Park, the following photos represent a sampling of the efforts undertaken by volunteers with HEAL THE BAY to hand pick and dispose of #beachtrash during the annual #CoastalCleanUpDay.  Spectacular effort with a very clean beach as the result of said efforts.

#CoastalCleanUp Day 2017 was a success, that's for sure!  Unfortunately, in the coming days and weeks inconsiderate beach patrons will litter and leave behind their consumable goods, e.g., glass, plastic, paper, etc. and the City of Santa Monica will continue to avoid its obligation to hand pick it up and dispose of it, especially near the water's edge.  Just look at our thousands of photos on this blog over the past year and before at just how much #beachtrash accumulates on a daily basis near the water's edge that the City of Santa Monica does not hand pick or dispose of on a daily basis.

While I very much admire all the efforts of today's volunteers and organizations like HEAL THE BAY, Surfrider Foundation, and others, the fact of the matter is that the governmental custodians of this State Beach in Santa Monica lack the integrity and resolve to daily hand pick and dispose of #beachtrash near the water's edge.  These governmental custodians are the City of Santa Monica and the State of California (California State Parks) and they are both complicit in the continuing failure to daily address and remove #beachtrash near the water's edge at Santa Monica State Beach.
