Friday, October 14, 2016: Santa Monica Beach Trash Report

Dateline: Friday morning, Oct. 14, 2016 at and after 9:30 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m. as we walk from the Santa Monica Pier toward Ocean Park and back taking photos and shooting video of the staggering amount of #beachtrash along the shoreline that continues NOT to be hand picked or otherwise collected and disposed of by the City of Santa Monica.  Note the repeat items along this #beachtrash audit this morning that have previously been photographed, proving once more that the City does not, in fact, either regularly or daily clean up the trash along the shoreline.  Question: Is this mere civic neglect or gross negligence?  Does the public have a right and reasonable expectation that the City will clean up the trash along the water line?  Do public employees such as beach lifeguards have a reasonable expectation that the City will clean up the beach adjacent to the water line of #beachtrash that includes glass and plastic bottles, cigarette butts, bottle caps (both metal and plastic), used condoms, used diapers, etc. et al?  Does the City of Santa Monica have an obligation to its citizens and visitors to clean up this trash?  Do these unsanitary conditions neglected by the City represent a risk of liability to the City?

Below, anyone who has seen our two earlier reports this week will recognize the used discarded diapers that the City of Santa Monica has continued not to dispose of!  #Shocking #Disgusting #InexcusableNeglect

Below, same large round debris shown in our last report two days ago!...

Below, as shown before, at left of center is the line in the sand where the City equipment stops cleaning the beach.  To the right adjacent to the water line is the area of the beach that the City does NOT, in fact, hand pick or otherwise collect and dispose of trash.

Below, same blue plastic cup that has been on the beach here all week!...

Below, at left the same discarded empty pack of MAVERICK® cigarettes that have been here on the beach for two weeks now, and at right, the empty glass bottle of HENRY'S Hard Soda that has been here all week!...

Same empty plastic prescription medicine container below that we saw two days ago!...

Below, same FIREBALL® cinnamon whiskey glass bottle where we saw it two days ago!...

Same empty and discarded pack of Marlboro cigarettes that we saw in this same area two days ago!  Get it?!... No one from the City is walking the beach in this area and hand picking up trash as the City has said it does... which is obviously a continuing misrepresentation!

I guess we are going to have to continue our efforts to audit and catalog and otherwise spoon feed more photos of #beachtrash to the City and the public in hopes that the City will start doing what it says it is doing and which it is certainly not doing...

..... after taking a swim at Ocean Park we headed back toward the Santa Monica Pier where we shot three (3) separate videos close to the Pier, as follows:

At some point, it is our sincere hope that someone in the City of Santa Monica will take responsibility for the failure to clean up the beach by the water line.
