Thursday, October 27, 2016: Santa Monica Beach Trash Report

a discarded paper cup from HOT DOG ON A STICK which we observed yesterday as well...
Dateline: Thursday morning, Oct. 27, 2016 around 10 a.m., we walked from the Santa Monica Pier south toward Ocean Park and back taking photos of all the #beachtrash along the water's edge that continues NOT to be hand picked and/or otherwise disposed of by the City of Santa Monica.

Below, the well groomed and raked "back of the beach"... where very few people, if any, sit down or spend any considerable time...

At water's edge, however, #beachtrash predominates and is left uncollected and is otherwise not disposed of by the City of Santa Monica as our multiple audits posted on this blog prove.

Below, this discarded paper product was here yesterday...

Below, you can see where the heavy equipment that rakes the beach ends and the front of the beach by the water's edge that gets no attention from the City in terms of the collection of #beachtrash...

This scrap of a paper cup was also on the beach in this area yesterday...

Below, this piece of wood was also in this same area yesterday proving once again that no one from the City bothered to pick it up because..... the City does not hand pick up the #beachtrash either regularly or daily...

This small glass container was also in this area yesterday...

This cup below was also on the beach yesterday and there it remains uncollected by the City of Santa Monica because no one from the City is walking along the water's edge hand picking up #beachtrash...

This #beachtrash below behind these two beach patrons was also on the beach yesterday...

This piece of wood below was on the beach yesterday...

This plastic wrapper was on the beach in this same area yesterday (below)...

We pause a moment to enjoy the view, the sky and the surfer exiting the ocean at Bay St...

Broken glass in the sand adjacent to the water's edge, uncollected by the City of Santa Monica.  I picked it up, however, so no one would get injured by it and I disposed of it in a nearby trash can...

Below, a crow backs off and apparently doesn't care to be photographed while picking over the remains of a dead sea gull at center frame... which remains uncollected and/or disposed of by the City of Santa Monica adjacent to lifeguard tower #26 at Ocean Park...

Lots of plastic containers and other plastic debris in today's audit.  Multiple pieces of #beachtrash observed that were present yesterday and which once again proves that the City is not hand picking up the #beachtrash along the water's edge.

If you come to the beach in Santa Monica be prepared to encounter a lot of #beachtrash because it appears that the City of Santa Monica is not inclined to clean it up along the water's edge.  And yet the public never sees photos of all of this #beachtrash being shown by the City or other civic organizations that tout the beaches in Santa Monica.

It is hoped that some day soon the City of Santa Monica will be accountable for all the #beachtrash that is left uncollected on a daily basis.

Respectfully submitted,

William Maguire,
Santa Monica
