Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016: Santa Monica Beach Trash Report...

Good From Far...
Dateline: Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 2016 at and after 10 a.m. along Santa Monica Beach from the Santa Monica Pier to Ocean Park and back.....  the photos plus a video of the accumulated trash, esp. adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier that continues NOT to be hand picked or otherwise collected and disposed of by the City of Santa Monica..... a continuing disgrace and violation of the public trust in the opinion of the undersigned.

The Photos:

The following two photos below shows the tractor and rake line left by the City of Santa Monica's sanitation dept. earlier this morning.  Beyond this line toward the water is the area that the City has stated that it hand picks... but this is just not the case.  In other words, the City says that it hand picks up the trash between the water line and the berm but it does not in fact do so and these photos prove it, just as do our previous blog posts on this same topic.

Lots of plastic water bottles along the water line and below the high tide line this morning, esp. adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier...

Below, a dead bird...

Santa Monica Beach Trash, Oct. 4, 2016: The Video

      https://youtu.be/EO--vGS-jqw

Below, a close up of the above photograph which shows at least eight (8) plastic and glass bottles in the frame of the photo!... uncollected at the water line and ignored by the City!...

Below are all the bottles, both plastic and glass, that I photographed along the water's edge above and then picked up by hand and placed up on the dry sand by a pier piling so that it did not get washed out to sea.  This also makes an effective photograph of all the trash that the City ignores and does not clean up as it should!...

In fact, the City of Santa Monica has earned an "Orange Star" for their lack of effort in cleaning up dead birds and trash on the beach in Santa Monica...

Below, note the above-referenced hand picked trash that I placed just right of center frame next to the pier piling...  Maybe the City can find it now from this photo...

I hope the viewers of this blog post are as concerned and disappointed as I am about the failure of the City of Santa Monica to hand pick up the trash along the water line that they have previously stated that they do, but which our multiple audits along Santa Monica Beach the past several months shows not to be the case.  Please communicate your disappointment and expectations to the City of Santa Monica.  The amount of trash along the shoreline is a disgrace.

Respectfully submitted,

William Maguire,
Santa Monica, Calif.
