Wed., Oct. 5, 2016: Santa Monica Beach Trash Report

Dateline: Santa Monica, Calif., Wednesday morning, Oct. 5, 2016 along the beach south of the Santa Monica Pier.  Another beautiful morning on the beach in terms of the weather and the ocean, but unfortunately not the shore line where again we encountered an abundance of #beachtrash and for those who saw our report yesterday you will recognize some #beachtrash left uncollected, in addition to the same dead bird beside the pier...

The photos...

The World Famous Santa Monica Pier... Looks Fantastic from far away, eh?!...

Up close you begin to see all the #beachtrash...

Below, the same dead bird from yesterday, as well as some #beachtrash that was there as well...

Below, this plastic cup was also in this area yesterday...

Below, this looks like the same Coca-Cola cup we saw in this same area yesterday...

This container below was also in this area yesterday...

In spite of all the #beachtrash, the skies and the ocean were still spectacular...

Below, this empty and discarded pack of MAVERICK cigarettes was in the same place yesterday...

Not the last straw... unfortunately.....

The City of Santa Monica Sanitation Dept. continues to not hand pick or otherwise collect and dispose of trash between the shoreline and the top of the berm as our repeated audits have shown.

It is hoped that the City of Santa Monica will start cleaning up the shoreline in order to provide the beach going public with a clean and safe place to enjoy this natural resource.

Respectfully submitted,

William Maguire,
Santa Monica, Calif.
