Sunday, October 30, 2016: Santa Monica Beach Trash Report

Trick Or Treat?!...

Dateline: Sunday morning, October 30, 2016 after 11 a.m. along Santa Monica Beach between the Santa Monica Pier and Ocean Park, followed by a swim in Venice, and a return to Santa Monica Beach just before 2 pm to see if the #beachtrash had been picked up...

All this #beachtrash beside lifeguard tower #17 was there yesterday as well...

The same burnt piece of wood has been here on the beach for over a week now...

How about a waterlogged cushion to rest on while you are at the beach?... this cushion has been here now over 3 days...

And there's that empty bottle of Rum we saw and photographed yesterday below...

Below is our friend the styrofoam cup that has been here for over 3 days...

Below, this red cloth has also been here over 3 days...

Attn: City of Santa Monica... "This Bud's for you..."

... and this bottle of Corona...

... and this piece of wood that has been here for over a week now...

Nice!... another soiled diaper...

As spotted yesterday, below is a dead bird wrapped up in blue cloth of some sort.  I mentioned this to an Animal Control officer yesterday afternoon by the Santa Monica Pier and told him exactly where to find it...  He didn't find it or didn't look cuz it's still there today (and was still there when I returned just prior to 2 pm)...

At this point in our audit we arrived at Ocean Park and then continued on down to Venice to take a swim.  We got back just prior to 2 pm and walked out to Lifeguard Tower #20 at Bay St. to see if the dead bird in the blue cloth was still there... and unfortunately, it was still there...

We continued walking back toward the Santa Monica Pier and we noticed that some of the #beachtrash we had observed at 11 a.m. today had been removed from the beach... by whom we do not know... but the beach looked a lot cleaner, thankfully!...

Nevertheless, we have yet to observe any City employees hand picking up #beachtrash and we hope that the City will begin to regularly hand pick up the #beachtrash along the water's edge.

Respectfully submitted,

William Maguire,
Santa Monica business owner
